Uncle is shedding followers from his YouTube account, but a little kindness goes a long way, even online。 Later on, shapeshifting gets involved and lots of Sega references show up。 Also he ruins things for many people。Well, I said after the first volume that if this softened a bit it could be really good。 It didn’t soften up and it isn’t really good。 Uncle continuing his distasteful misanthropic antics doesn’t do a single thing for me and I wasn’t able to get around it this volume。Is it funny? Yes, there’s some amazing stuff here, I won’t deny it。 When Uncle takes the form of Tsundere-san in the real world (though her actually showing up might make the story far more fun), Takafumi weaponizes this to make a killing and the rolling commentary from Uncle as they stream him (“they can’t even see the game!”) is absolutely hilarious in its density。Anything else that is Uncle focused, however, kind of sucks。 I get what they’re trying for here, with him misinterpreting everything in a negative light and causing himself far more hardship than is necessary。 It just doesn’t translate well。 His love of video games and attempts to use their tropes to get ahead is much better than anything else about him。The problem that this book doesn’t seem to get, or possibly just revels in, is that a well-intentioned asshole is still an asshole。 His constant use of that memory erasing spell without consent in particular is very, very gross to me。 It’s a full on violation that I cannot get past, doubly so when it’s played for laughs。It’s also really big on letting Uncle be this worst possible person to people who, for some reason, actually like him。 The way he inadvertently invades personal space and gets overly handsy while meaning nothing is no excuse。 It’s not my style of “comedy”。Some of it is funny, some of it is really mean, some of it is icky。 If you like a more cruel take on your jokes, you may enjoy this more, and I have laughed at some awful stuff so I would never judge, but it’s not my thing。 Considering I just read a gag manga about a contract killer and I liked her a ton more, that’s saying something。 I won’t even get into the gender issues this book has with its constant dumping on its female characters。2 stars; this is my stop on this particular ride。 It hasn’t really lightened up with its miserable nature and frankly I absolutely despise the main character。 It’s not his alleged physical ugliness that’s the problem here。 。。。more
Nicolo,
I'm sold。 I was on the face after volume one but now I'm in for the long run。This manga is just funny。 The covers for the collected editions are great too, because the artist can really draw cute girls。 It's funny, well-written, and well-drawn。 What more can you ask from a manga。 I'm sold。 I was on the face after volume one but now I'm in for the long run。This manga is just funny。 The covers for the collected editions are great too, because the artist can really draw cute girls。 It's funny, well-written, and well-drawn。 What more can you ask from a manga。 。。。more
